Nikon proved to be a dominant force at the 2024 Camera Grand Prix Awards, clinching multiple prestigious awards and outshining the competition. Here’s what went down at the star-studded event.

On May 21, 2024, Nikon’s prowess in the camera world was once again acknowledged at the Camera Grand Prix Awards. The Nikon NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena didn’t just win ‘Lens of the Year,’ but also scooped the reader-voted choice of lens of the year, reaffirming its place in the hearts of photography enthusiasts.

The crown for ‘Camera of the Year’ was taken by Sony’s A9 III, but Nikon’s stronghold on the event was evident with multiple wins. Nikon’s Z8 Auto Capture Function grabbed both the Editor’s Award and the Technology Prize, showcasing the innovation and excellence that the brand brings to the table.

Highlighting the best camera models, Nikon’s Z8 and Zf secured second and third positions with 126 and 49 points respectively. Leading the pack was Sony α9 Ⅲ with a hefty 307 points. Following Nikon were the Fujifilm X100VI and Canon EOS R8, which landed fourth and fifth places with 38 and 37 points respectively.

In the lens category, Nikon excelled again with the NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena leading the list with 169 points. Sony’s FE 300mm f/2.8 GM OSS, Canon’s RF 10-20mm f/4 L IS STM, Sigma’s 500 f/5.6 DG DN OS / Sports, and Panasonic’s LUMIX S 100mm f/2.8 MACRO rounded out the top five lenses. It’s worth noting that Sony and Canon were the only other brands to claim more than one award, with each taking home two.

Nikon’s award-winning spree isn’t limited to the Camera Grand Prix. Their accolades this season also include four Red Dot Awards for product design, which featured their Nikon Zf and Z8 cameras and lenses such as the 135mm f/1.8 S Plena and the Nikon Z 600mm f/6.3 VR S.

Adding to their impressive list of achievements, Nikon was also celebrated at the TIPA (Technical Image Press Association) awards. The Nikon Zf was named the Best Full Frame Expert Camera, while the Nikon Z8 was honored as the Best Full Frame Professional Camera.

The Camera Grand Prix Awards, held annually by the Camera Journal Press Club (CJPC), highlights the best in photography gear. With representatives from various photo and camera magazines and websites, the awards underscore the pinnacle of quality and innovation in the industry.

Winning big at the Camera Grand Prix Awards and other prestigious ceremonies, Nikon has solidified its position as a leader in the world of photography. With their continuous innovation and dedication to quality, one can only expect even greater things from them in the future.
