A chance conversation at The Photography and Video Show led to an unexpected purchase that left me both surprised and thrilled. Despite having a collection of Fujifilm cameras, I found myself adding yet another to the mix – the new Fujifilm X100VI.

I’ve been a dedicated Fujifilm X-shooter for years, still holding onto models like the X-Pro1, X-T10, and multiple X-T2s. My collection even includes the newer X-T4, X-T5, and X-H2s. Suffice to say, I didn’t need another camera. But there’s something special about the X100 series.

The original X100, with its 23mm (35mm equivalent) fixed lens, revolutionized street photography despite having some focus issues initially. Later generations refined these quirks, making the X100 series a respectable contender for the Leica crown. When the X100V was discontinued, its second-hand prices soared past the original retail price.

So, imagine my excitement when Fujifilm announced the X100VI – essentially a compact version of the X-T5 but housed in the iconic X100 body. And to celebrate the company’s 90th anniversary, they released a special limited edition version. Only 1,934 units were made, each featuring the original logo on the cap, a soft button, and a special edition strap.

Back at the show, an enthusiastic conversation about this camera caught my interest. The challenge wasn’t the price this time, but actually getting my hands on one, as Fujifilm opted for a lottery system to distribute these limited units. Fortunately, I got lucky and received an invite to purchase one.

Picking up the camera in person, I felt a rush of excitement as I unboxed it. Some might buy this limited edition to resell, but I bought it to use. And it has surpassed my expectations in every way. It’s the perfect walkabout camera, compact yet powerful, and a joy to use.

Owning the Fujifilm X100VI has been a delightful experience, making it a worthy addition to my already extensive collection. It’s not just a camera; it’s a piece of Fujifilm history that I’m thrilled to use and cherish.
