If you own an Avata 2 and the latest generation of controllers, the newest firmware update, version 01.00.0300, brings an exciting feature – a faster 100fps 4K recording mode. This upgrade is ideal for those looking to enhance their cinematic FPV experience when paired with the Goggles 3.

What’s even more significant for current Avata (1) owners is that this update allows the Avata 2 to function with some of DJI’s older goggles and controllers, specifically DJI Goggles 2, DJI Goggles Integra, DJI RC Motion 2, and DJI FPV Remote Controller 2, provided the necessary updates are made. Essentially, you can now swap your Avata for the Avata 2 and fly it using your older gear—a feature unavailable at launch.

Opting to purchase just the drone without the new controller and 3D Goggles might mean missing out on some features like 3D pass-through initially. However, this staged upgrade can ease the financial burden, especially relevant in the accident-prone FPV world.

Additionally, the update ensures the drone complies with the latest ADS-B requirements in the USA and Europe. Known to most pilots as ‘Remote ID,’ this system mandates the drone broadcast identification and location data during flights—a regulatory necessity for aviation authorities.

Before getting too excited, it’s crucial to note that the Avata 2 sports a different airframe shape and battery type compared to the Avata (1), meaning your old batteries won’t be compatible and will need replacing.

While DJI has rolled out multiple firmware updates recently, the update for the Avata 2 stands out for FPV enthusiasts. Its potential to significantly reduce upgrade costs makes it a game-changer in the FPV community.
