In a recent chat with Adorama, Fujifilm USA Vice-President Victor Ha revealed that Fujifilm’s fifth-gen X-series cameras are in for a treat this month. A firmware update is set to introduce the Reala Ace film simulation to more models, along with a fix for the continuous AF bug that’s been bothering users.
First showcased at Fujifilm’s X-Summit for the X100VI launch in February, the Reala Ace film simulation will soon be available on all fifth-gen X-Series cameras that don’t already feature it. This includes models like the X-T5, X-H2, X-H2S, and X-S20. Reala Ace, which made its debut with the Fujifilm GFX 100 II in September 2023, has been a hit and users are eager to see it rolled out to more of the Fuji lineup.
Fujifilm describes Reala Ace as offering ‘incredibly true-to-life color reproduction and a hard tonality, this versatile Film Simulation adds a slight analog edge. Its natural rendering is well-suited for capturing all subjects and environments.’
Interestingly, there are rumors that the firmware update might arrive sooner than expected. Comments from Fujifilm China hinted at an August release, but it seems Fujifilm has pushed up the timeline, possibly to address the continuous AF bug sooner rather than later.
This AF bug has been a point of frustration for certain models, especially after the latest firmware update (3.01 on the X-T5). The issue appears when using continuous AF and automatic face/eye recognition, causing the camera to focus on the nearest object rather than the subject’s face. Victor Ha assured that the upcoming update will address this problem.
It’s good to see Fujifilm taking user feedback seriously and working proactively to enhance their cameras’ performance. With the Reala Ace simulation and the AF bug fix on the horizon, fifth-gen Fujifilm camera users have a lot to look forward to.
Fujifilm’s upcoming firmware update promises to bring exciting enhancements to fifth-gen X-Series cameras. The addition of Reala Ace film simulation and the long-awaited fix for the continuous AF bug show Fujifilm’s dedication to both innovation and user satisfaction.
